The kidneys are two bilateral bean shaped organs, located in the posterior abdomen. From each kidney, the urine flows through a tube, the ureter, to the urinary bladder, where it is stored until it is expelled from the body through another tube the renal fascia is a thin, outer layer of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds each kidney (and the attached adrenal gland) and fastens it to. Urine is transported from the kidneys to the bladder by the ureters.

Urea is produced when foods containing protein, such as meat, poultry, and certain vegetables, are broken down in the body.

This layer sits posteriorly and posterolaterally to each kidney and separates it from the muscles of the abdominal wall. Bacteria may infect the kidney, usually causing back pain and fever.
