The lymphatic system is a series of vessels and nodes that collects and filters excess tissue fluid (lymph), before returning it to the venous circulation. The vessels have an inner lining composed of simple squamous epithelial cells. Lymphatic vessels, unlike blood vessels, only carry fluid away from the tissues.

The lymphatic vessels are a network of vessels that are separate from but intertwine together with the blood vessels and return excess tissue fluid to the blood vascular system.

The lymphatic system parallels the cardiovascular system (see the images below). They are absent from the central nervous. Other articles where lymphatic vessel is discussed: Lymphatic system absorbs fluid from the interstitial tissues which is called lymph and it passes back into the blood.
